My name is Lucy Silvas, and I’m a Runner!
“My four sisters think I am crazy”, laughed Lucy when we asked if her family were all runners. “My mom was a runner and she would take us to races in Mexico when we were growing up so that is where I think I got my running genes.”
Born in Coahuila , Mexico Lucy now calls Dallas home and if you are lucky you might catch her running the KATY Trail or out at White Rock Lake in her Asics Nimbus. Her “happy pace” is around a nine minute mile and she averages between 18 and 28 miles per week depending on her training goal.
“I started training about a year ago with the goal of running the Big D Half Marathon in April. After that I kind of got addicted. The DRC Half in November was my second one and now I have the White Rock Half Marathon coming up next weekend”, added Lucy.
Lucy works as an accountant and we asked her about how she deals with the stress of a slow economy and she added, “I used to run 5K’s a lot and just ran 2 or 3 times per week but now I just love the half marathon distance. Being out there a little bit longer really helps me get my mind of off everything.”
“Sometimes I like to run by myself and listen to music. Bob Sinclair is one of my favorite artists. It is the Miami sound that gets me moving. But I also really like running with friends because I like to talk and if I am running in a race then I like to hear the crowd cheering.”
“I get inspired by watching others get excited about running and really like to see them achieve their goals. That is what keeps me motivated. My ultimate running goal though is to run the New York Marathon sometime in the next couple of years”, said Lucy when we asked her about what inspires her to keep going.
“I tell people that it only takes one step to start and once you get going you will be hooked”, commented Lucy when we asked her what she would tell someone who was thinking about starting a running program.
“I know how easy it is to make an excuse not to go. I have to run as soon as I get home from work otherwise I won’t do it. I even lay out my running clothes in the morning so when I get home I just change and go.”
Lucy we know the feeling too! Keep it up and Run On!
