With so many things to do during the holidays, sometimes your running gets put on the back burner. Here are some ideas on how and why you should keep your training on track during the holidays.
- Your calendar gets more packed during the holiday season, but you should try to make running a priority. Take a look at your week and write down when you think you'll be able to squeeze in runs, just like you would other appointments. If you have runs scheduled, you're more likely to get them done.
- Allow yourself some slack. Just because you’re cutting back a bit doesn’t mean that you’re wasting your time. A short run is better than no run at all. Pick up the pace a bit to make it more challenging!
- Include your family. Find a fun race like a Jingle Bell run that everyone can enjoy.
- Running is an effective coping strategy. Remember that including a run in your day may help you to be more productive and energetic.
- Don't beat yourself up if you don't have time or energy for a run. Just because you missed a run, don't use it as an excuse to throw in the towel and forget about your workout plans during the holiday season. Get right back with your program, forget about your missed run, and move on.
It is the most wonderful time of the year for running in Dallas- take a few minutes to enjoy, your body, mind (and family) will thank you!
